April usually conjures images of spring: cherry blossoms, rainy days, fresh starts. It also means editing my makeup and skincare routines for the warmer weather. Right now, I’m really into a no-makeup makeup look with some pops of color. A big part of that is adjusting my skincare so the canvas I’m starting with is as healthy and smooth as possible (more on that in a separate post). Thank goodness for Sephora’s VIB Spring Sale!
I did a little bit of research beforehand and, of course, some seemingly endless perusing at the store last Saturday. Luckily, the little girl LOVES being at the makeup store as much as I do. So, here’s what I’ll be using in the next few months:
1 Sephora Contouring: Uncomplicated Brush Set | 2 Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer | 3 Marc Jacobs #instamarc (old) | 4 Anastasia Brow Wiz (old) | 5 Glossier Stretch Concealer (old) | 6 Ilia Multi-Stick in Cheek to Cheek | 7 Becca Highlighter in Champage Pop | 8 L’Oreal Lash Fantasy Mascara (old) | 9 Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb | 10 RMS Beauty Champagne Rose Luminizer | 11 VICE Beauty Lipstick in Hababayu (from the Philippines) | Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 (not pictured)
I wanted to focus on products that felt lightweight, so I swapped out my foundation for tinted moisturizer. That SPF will also come in handy as I spend more time outdoors with the kids. Glossier’s stretch concealer is a year-rounder for me. I love that it never feels cakey or creases. #instamarc contouring powders are subtle enough so I don’t look full-on Kardashian. These new highlighters in rosy shades give that candlelight glow we all want 24/7.
I fell in love with Ilia’s Multi-Stick because the brick color is sheer but has just enough saturation to really pop. The color also looks great on my cheeks, lips or eyelids (triple win!). For extra warmth, Benefit’s Hoola in matte is perfect.
Honestly, I’m really into a simple eye this season. I’ve been using the Multi-Stick with a hint of the Becca highlighter for a cool, monotone look. For extra drama I might smudge some dark brown eyeliner around my lashline but that’s it. L’Oreal’s Lash Fantasy mascara has stood the test of travel and tropical weather and didn’t flake or start melting on my cheeks.
Aggghhhh! What can I say about this Fenty Beauty gloss? I’ve always been so jealous of those girls who can pull of a nude lip without looking like death warmed over. I’ve searched high and low for nude colored lipsticks, stains, glosses—you name it, I’ve bought it—to try to achieve that look. It is really hard to find the right nude color for Asian skin. But when they called this the Universal Lip Luminizer, they meant it. The minute I tried it on in the store it was like bells were pealing in celebration (in my head). I had to have it.
I also stocked up on some VICE cosmetics products while we were in the Philippines. The company’s founder is popular gay celebrity and show host Vice Ganda (literally translates to “Vice Beauty”). I have to admit I was a bit skeptical when I saw it in the drugstore, but after trying on a few shades I was in love. The colors are perfect for Filipino skin and came in a range of shades and formulas. I might just have my mom buy a few more for me!
I love the clean yet bright reddish and warm peach tones and how they work together on my skin. The layering of matte, iridescent and glossy formulas keep the monochromatic colors from slipping into boring.
